Stage 3 Public Engagement for Tung Chung New Town Extension Study launched Stage 3 Public Engagement for Tung Chung New Town Extension Study launched ************************************************************ The Planning Department and the Civil Engineering and Development Department today (August 15) launched the Stage 3 Public Engagement for the Tung Chung New Town Extension Study to gauge the public's views on the draft Recommended Outline Development Plans (RODPs). Members of the public are welcome to participate. The overall objective of the study is to identify the development potential and opportunities to extend Tung Chung into a distinct community that can meet housing, social, economic, environmental and local needs. The Stage 2 Public Engagement was completed in July last year. The public generally support the further development of Tung Chung New Town. Taking into account the public views collected, the planning and engineering considerations and the technical assessments conducted, the draft RODPs for Tung Chung East and Tung Chung West have been formulated. About 48 000 flats are proposed to be provided in the extension areas. The Tung Chung East extension area would have integrated development. Apart from housing, land would be reserved for different business facilities to foster Tung Chung's development into a regional office node and create more job opportunities. Tung Chung West would adopt a lower density of development in order to preserve its rural character. Land would also be reserved in the new town extension for recreational and community facilities to meet the needs of residents. The Stage 3 Public Engagement will last for two and a half months until October 31. Activities including a public forum, briefings and roving exhibitions will be conducted. Details of the activities and engagement documents are available on the study's website (www.tung-chung.hk). Members of the public are invited to send in their comments on or before October 31: Planning Department Fax:  2367 2976 Post: Sai Kung and Islands District Planning Office, 15/F, Sha Tin Government Offices, 1 Sheung Wo Che Road, Sha Tin Civil Engineering and Development Department Fax:  2577 5040 Post: Hong Kong Island and Islands Development Office, 13/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point Email: tungchung@cedd.gov.hk Ends/Friday, August 15, 2014 Issued at HKT 14:00 NNNN News Archives | Yesterday's News
