CEDD's statement on Tung Chung New Town Development Extension Study CEDD's statement on Tung Chung New Town Development Extension Study **************************************************** In response to media enquiries on the Project Profile of the Tung Chung New Town Development Extension Study, a spokesman for the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) said the following today (July 18): "The CEDD is now conducting the Stage 1 Public Engagement for the Tung Chung New Town Development Extension Study. The public engagement activities are being conducted for two months until August 12 with the aim of collecting public views on further development of Tung Chung, including planning aspiration, development opportunities, and conservation of the environment and ecology. "The publication of the Project Profile during the Stage 1 Public Engagement allows the public, including green groups, to have a deeper understanding of the Tung Chung New Town Development Extension Study. This will enable us to comprehensively collect views from the public, including green groups. "According to the Environmental Impact Assessment Ordinance (EIAO), the public can submit their comments on the Project Profile to the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) on or before July 30. The EPD will issue an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Study Brief within 45 days after receiving the application for the Study Brief or supplementary information. Thereafter, the CEDD will conduct the EIA Study. "The CEDD will also consider the public views on the Tung Chung New Town Development Extension Study received after July 30. Furthermore, during the period of the EIA Study, we shall continue to consult various green groups so that issues relating to the environment and ecology will be comprehensively studied. Practical mitigation measures will be explored to ensure that the Tung Chung New Town Development Extension project is feasible and the environmental impact can be controlled within acceptable limits under the EIAO."
